For Vernon there’s no better enjoyment and relaxation than singing in a Choir. He is cofounder and chair of the Bristol based Renewal gospel choir which has been running for over seven years. The choir has grown from a handful of interested singers and musicians to a 50 strong membership representing a diverse range of members.
After discovering a talent for triple jump in school Vernon achieved his first All England Schools Championship at the age of just 14 and then went on to represent Great Britain at Junior and senior levels for 10 years in pursuit of his sporting dream of competing at the Olympic Games.
At age 19 Vernon won a 4 year sports scholarship to Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas, USA where he graduated from university in 1988 with a degree in psychology and in the same year qualified to represent GB in the Seoul Olympics where he achieved 13 position in the triple jump.
Sport has been the vehicle through which Vernon developed his expressive “voice” representing his talent, need to achieve, moral conscience and passion for life. His sporting success continues to influence so many aspects of his life. Through his hobbies and interest Vernon now helps to encourage and inspire others to find and pursue their own “voice” of expression
Since early 2011 after the national Capacitybuilders agency where he was employed was closed, Vernon has spent much of his time employing his skills as an Athlete Mentor in schools right across South West England and South Wales
